Therapeutic Horse Connection Programs

Therapeutic Horse Connection, dba Karin’s Horse Connection is our 501(c)3 non-profit which provides equine centered therapeutic programs open to people of all ages and abilities – everyone is welcome!  Our passion is to see other people fall in love with our horses and find the healing and joy found in a human-horse connection. Many of our instructors are PATH International (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International) certified and have years of experience working with children, youth, and adults. We have several very well-trained ponies and horses that love people, and who are used to working with whatever special accommodations are required.

We offer Adaptive Vaulting, Therapeutic Riding, a Farm Work Therapy program, and the opportunity for groups to come on Field Trips and experience the stables and ride the horses.  And for those that may not physically be able to come to the stables, we can come to you with our certified therapy horse, ‘Peanut’!

Adaptive Vaulting

Therapeutic Adaptive Vaulting, or better described as horseback riding in different positions, is offered one-on-one for special needs individuals. Adaptive vaulting can be done at the halt, walk, trot or canter. Most students quickly relax and harmonize with the horse, gaining balance, coordination, and body strength through the constant stimulation of countless muscles. All sorts of exercises, done as an individual (or even as a pair!), provide variety and a sense of achievement.  This is a great boost for the rider’s self-esteem–not to mention FUN!

We use special equipment: a comfortable, non-slip pad on the horse’s back, and a surcingle with two big handles instead of a traditional saddle. This allows the rider to feel closer to the horse, to change positions (backwards, knees, etc.), and hold on when desired. The lunger or leader controls the horse, which makes it very safe and allows the rider to focus on what they are doing. In addition, we use side walkers as needed and occasionally a back rider for safety and instruction.  All lessons are open to individuals of ALL ages and abilities. Taught privately or semi-privately with one of our qualified instructors. Cost is $37 per 30 minute lesson.
